Matthias Joins “The Danish Girl”

Deadline is reporting that Matthias is joining the cast of Tom Hooper’s “The Danish Girl“.

Matthias Schoenaerts (The Drop) is joining Tom Hooper’s The Danish Girl opposite Eddie Redmayne (The Theory Of Everything), Alicia Vikander (Testament Of Youth) and Amber Heard (Magic Mike 2). The film, boasting an increasingly formidable cast, sees director and producer Hooper re-teaming with Working Title’s powerhouses Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner. The trio previously worked together with much success on Les Miserables.

Inspired by the novel written by David Ebershoff, The Danish Girl is a love story about Danish painters Einar Wegener and his wife Gerda. In 1930, Wegener was one of the first men ever to undergo operations to become a woman. Lucinda Coxon adapted the screenplay. Anne Harrison and Gail Mutrux developed the film and will produce through their Harrison Productions and Pretty Pictures banners.

Schoenaerts is repped by CAA and UBBA. The Belgian actor has the Thomas Vinterberg-directed adaptation of Thomas Hardy’s classic novel Far From The Madding Crowd coming down the pipeline, opposite Carey Mulligan and Juno Temple.

The first rule of The Loft is…you don’t tell anybody else about the Loft. That’s the deal five married buddies strike when they decide to share the keys to a deluxe penthouse in the sky that will serve as an “oasis” from their wives. “Think about it,” promises handsome ringleader Vincent (Star Trek’s Karl Urban) in the thriller’s new trailer, “No messy hotel bills, no questionable credit card activity.” His argument eventually sway his pals, including Wentworth Miller, Eric Stonestreet, Mattias Schoenaerts and even a dubious James Marsden, who initially (and unconvincingly) insists “I’m not like that.”

Deadline is reporting that Matthias is set to star opposite Diane Kruger in “Maryland“.

Diane Kruger has set two indie features to fill her winter schedule. German-born Kruger (Wicker Park, Inglourious Basterds, The Host) will first head to the south of France to film Maryland for director Alice Winocour, the helmer who made her debut two years ago with the Cannes entry Augustine. The film tracks an ex-soldier with PTSD who is hired to protect the wife and child of a wealthy Lebanese businessman while he’s out of town. Belgian actor Matthias Schoenaerts (Bullhead, Rust and Bone) will play the soldier. Dharamsala and Darius Films are producing. Schoenaerts will be seen next in Thomas Vinterberg’s Far From the Madding Crowd which Fox Searchlight will release in May. He is repped by CAA and UBBA in France.

A Little Chaos – UK distribution Lionsgate UK
A landscape gardener with instinct and flair, Sabine De Barra (Kate Winslet) is the breath of fresh air that the stuffy geometry of Versailles needs. Brought in by strict garden chief André Le Nôtre (Matthias Schoenaerts), a man who prizes order above all, she is soon charming all she meets and innovating with fresh approaches to shrubbery. But there is intrigue at the Court of King Louis XIV, a vipers nest of gossip and skullduggery, where Helen McCrory gives a delicious turn as a woman with a grudge. For his sophomore feature Alan Rickman has fashioned a spritely period romp, demonstrating a confident feel for the material – an original script from first-time screenwriter Alison Deegan. There is much pleasure taken in the wit and flow of royal society; Rickman himself plays King Louis XIV with a dry bemusement that will delight fans, while Stanley Tucci is in fine flamboyant form. But the film’s greatest strength lies in its emphasis on women and their relationships, with a sublime performance from Winslet that invests immense emotional grit into Sabine, a woman struggling with her own personal demons. As André becomes aware of her charms, so too will audiences, making A Little Chaos a treat for green-fingered romantics. Let them greet Kate!
